Chalice congregants signed cards of love and support for our Muslim friends at church on Sunday, January 29. The card was then delivered to the Islamic Society of North County (ISNC, located in Escondido) on Friday, February 3.
Four Chalice congregants represented our community in delivering the card at the close of ISNC’s weekly worship. Manuel Welchez shared these words:
Good afternoon to everyone.
On behalf of Chalice Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Escondido, we bring greetings and our best wishes to each one of you.
Chalice Unitarian Universalists Congregation values the friendship with the Islamic Society of North County.
The pronouncements and rhetoric of the last political campaign and the actions taken by the current administration have created a great deal of concern in our congregation.
The current climate of fear and scapegoating against the immigrant community at large, and in particular against our Muslim brothers and sisters, is appalling and un-American.
We want to you to know that Chalice Unitarian Universalist Congregation stands in solidarity with you!
As an expression of our solidarity and on behalf of our congregation, we are delivering to you a signed card expressing our feeling towards you.
In closing we want to thank you for giving us the time to visit with you, and you can count on our continued support.
ISNC thanked us with a note to Rev. Sharon: “We love and thank you and your BEAUTIFUL congregation; for supporting us in our time of distress and uncertainty.”
