Greetings, Chalice!
I am thrilled to announce that Susan Spoto has agreed to be our Vice President for the remainder of this board year, stepping into the role of President next year. Susan is a founding member of Chalice and has vast experience as a leader in our community, including serving as President of the Board of Trustees in 2015-2016 and also serving on the Coordinating Team. We are so grateful to Susan for agreeing to serve Chalice again in this very important leadership role.
On the subject of serving Chalice, our Nominating Committee is beginning to think about next year’s open Board positions. Open positions will include Vice-President, Treasurer, and 1 Trustee position. I encourage you to consider if now might be the time to contribute your energy and fresh ideas to the Board of Trustees. Please contact Patty Carlisle to discuss your interest and to find out more about these roles.
In other Board news, at our October 8 meeting, the Board voted to not approve flying our three flags on our flagpole for an additional year. These three flags include our Black Lives Matter flag, our LGBTQ flag, and our American flag. We know that members of our congregation may have a wide range of responses to this vote and feel impacted in different ways. In light of this, we invite the congregation to a facilitated Listening Session on Sunday, November 10 @ 11:45a after service. Look for a single-subject email coming soon with a Zoom link for remote participation.
My final thoughts center on our upcoming national election. Many of us may be nervous, wondering how our election on November 5 will turn out. Many congregants and friends have worked tirelessly for months writing letters to encourage voter participation as part of the UU the Vote campaign headed locally by Paul Courtright. Our goal was to send 15,500 letters, and we exceeded our goal, sending 18,125 letters. We are so grateful to Paul and everyone who contributed to this very important social justice work. And now that the letters are sent, we wait. And hope.
Regardless of the election results, however, Chalice is here for you, holding each of us in loving community.
In love and service,
Lara Brown
